ODEON Project: Advancing Sustainable and Digital Livestock Farming

We are pleased to announce our participation in the ODEON – Environmentally, Economically and Socially Responsible Livestock Farming project, a four-year initiative aimed at supporting the transition towards more sustainable, climate-neutral, and digitally advanced livestock production systems in Slovenia.

About the Project

ODEON brings together research institutions, educational organisations, advisory services, technology providers, and innovative farms to develop, test, and transfer practical solutions for sustainable livestock farming.

The project addresses key challenges facing the livestock sector, including:

  • Improving animal health and welfare;
  • Reducing environmental impacts and greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Enhancing the economic performance of farms;
  • Supporting adaptation to climate change;
  • Accelerating the digital transformation of livestock production.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the use of sensors, smart technologies, automated monitoring systems, and data-driven decision-making tools. The project will also focus on improving barn microclimates, monitoring environmental indicators, and developing innovative breeding and management approaches.

Key Activities

Throughout the project, partners will carry out:

  • Research and applied trials under real farming conditions;
  • Development and testing of digital and smart-farming solutions;
  • Establishment of databases for monitoring animal health, welfare, productivity, and environmental performance;
  • Demonstration activities on participating farms;
  • Workshops, seminars, and training programmes for farmers, advisors, students, and other stakeholders.

Project results will be published as they become available during the implementation period.

Building the Future of Livestock Farming

ODEON contributes directly to national and European objectives related to climate neutrality, animal welfare, biodiversity conservation, food security, and agricultural competitiveness. By strengthening collaboration between research, education, advisory services, technology providers, and farmers, the project will support the development of innovative and practical solutions for the future of Slovenian livestock farming.
